Energizing my creative side... again!

At last years' HOW design conference in Atlanta, Jim Krause, a graphic designer like myself spoke about inspiring creativity through photography.

Of course, photography has always been a love of mine, I have not devoted enough time since school days. My busy lifestyle, family, kids, wife, and pets, have consumed all my time, and picture taking became just that. Documenting b-days, holidays, family outings, and things like that. A cause for much frustration, not getting the shots I knew I was capable of. Oh, Not because I had a bad camera, but because I did not spend the time to do better. Shame on me.

Having put this off far too long, It was time. So, for my midlife crisis, I bought myself a present. I bought a new digital SLR camera. Got it last June, and have been shooting daily, since. I'm rarely without my camera, and when I don't have it, I'm thinking about what to photograph, or what lens to add to my wish list. I'm so excited to have this revitalized creative outlet, and much thanks to Jim, for inspiring me to take it to the next level.

I'm also a bit of a gadget geek, so learning about the camera and lenses has been great fun. As for the creative side, it's energizing! As most designers know anyway, creativity is like a muscle, and it must be exercised, or creativity stagnates and suffers.

I'm beginning to meet other photographers to share experiences with, and learn new skills, and I look forward to future meets and some travel.

On Saturday, August 23rd, I participated in Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk, in Coney Island, NY. It was great fun, and I made some new friends.
